Canadian Organization Grants Nanumba South District Assembly Funding for Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation Project

In a groundbreaking development, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Nanumba South District Assembly, Hon. Issifu Zakaria, welcomed a visit from Senior Governance Advisor, Elvis Otoo, representing Co-water Ghana, a Canadian private organization and sponsor of the Strengthening Investment in Gender Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) program.

The purpose of the visit on Friday, 3rd May 2024, was to announce the successful funding proposal submitted by the Nanumba South District Assembly for the SIGRA program. Out of the 18 District Assemblies that competed for the funding, only three were selected, including Nanumba South.

With a total budget of CAD120,000, equivalent to Ghc. 1,209,820.81 for a three-year implementation period, this funding will be instrumental in supporting development projects and programs focusing on gender-responsive climate adaptation initiatives in the Nanumba South District.

During the meeting, the Senior Governance Advisor commended the Nanumba South District Assembly for their hard work in crafting a successful proposal. He emphasized the importance of gender-responsive climate adaptation and reaffirmed Co-water Ghana’s dedication to supporting such crucial projects.

Expressing his gratitude for the visit, the Hon. DCE assured the team of the Assembly’s commitment to implementing the project effectively. He underscored the significance of gender-responsive initiatives in climate adaptation and expressed his appreciation for the partnership with Cower Ghana in this vital endeavor.

The courtesy call between the Nanumba South District Assembly and Co-water Ghana was marked by a shared commitment to collaborating on addressing climate change issues and promoting gender equality within the district.
